Len Hendry
________________________________________________________________________________ PITTSBURGH’S OWN BIG BAND RADIO PERSONALITY The Len Hendry radio show "Let’s Dance" is heard every Saturday evening from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM over Duquesne University’s radio station WDUQ 90.5 on the FM dial. Len is celebrating 25 years with WDUQ, playing and promoting big band music in the Western Pennsylvania area. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh and as a young student studied the trumpet which led to playing in high school music organizations. After high school Len pursued a career as a professional trumpet player with territory bands traveling throughout the mid-western United States. Returning to Pittsburgh after a few years on the road he started working in the insurance industry. He continued playing with small combos. During this time a fellow musician had a nostalgia (old time radio) program on radio station WYEP on Sundays and asked Len if he would help. On July 1, 1975 Len moved to WDUQ with his own "Let’s Dance Program" and as they say, the rest is history. "Let’s Dance" is the only radio show in the Pittsburgh area devoted exclusively to big band music. Len has been very helpful to all the big bands in the area in providing air time and promoting them. The Graham Grubb Orchestra is especially appreciative of his efforts. And the beat goes on. From all the big band leaders…our hats are off to you Len, continued success.
CODA: We were all saddened to learn of Len's death on April 21, 2006. He will be missed by all who knew him and called him friend. Rest in peace Len. ... FINE |
